The business

Overview.

PSW Services, trading as PSW Landscaping Ltd, is a family-run garden, landscaping and construction firm working across West Cork out of the Skibbereen area. The work runs from a fortnightly garden tidy to a full patio, driveway or stone wall build, and takes in tree surgery, fencing, power washing, drain jetting and Japanese knotweed treatment along the way. Real plant, real ground works, and a reputation built locally over years.

The website did not reflect any of that. It was a dated WordPress site that had been left alone long enough to be compromised, with spam injected into the services copy and a placeholder still sitting in the contact block. For a trade that wins work on the strength of the finished job, there was nothing to look at.

The challenge

What we were solving.

The existing site was a decade out of date and, on inspection, compromised: the services introduction had gambling spam injected into it and the contact block still carried a placeholder from whoever built it. The copyright line was frozen years back. Underneath that was a real, capable firm doing patios, driveways, stone walls, tree surgery and drain jetting across West Cork, with nothing online to show for any of it. In a trade that sells on the finished job, the work was invisible.

What we did

The work.

A full rebuild as a fast, crawlable static site: a deep page for every service, an honest page for every town served, the firm's own job photography catalogued into a filterable gallery, long-form seasonal guides, and a quote form at the foot of every page that knows which service you were reading. Written from scratch in the client's own brand, and handed over with an editor they use themselves.

Deep local SEO: a page per service, a page per town, schema and a clean sitemap

A content editor the client uses themselves, with no developer in the loop

In detail

How it came together.

01

Nothing from the old site was carried across

Every page of the old site was scraped and mined before anything was written, but as source material rather than copy. The genuine detail was there and worth keeping: driveway aggregates and finishes, the patio construction method, the composite decking specification, the causes of land drainage failure, the plant list down to the two Kubota diggers, and the law on Japanese knotweed. The injected spam and the placeholder were left behind, and the compromise was flagged to the client rather than quietly patched over.

02

Built for the search that ends in a phone call

Someone wanting a patio in Skibbereen does not search for a landscaping company. They search for a patio in Skibbereen. So the architecture is a real page for every service and a real page for every town served, with service and area combined only where that combination is genuinely something the firm does, never as thin doorway pages. LocalBusiness and Service schema, a sitemap generated from what is actually on disk, and a build check that fails on a broken link or a missing image.

03

A visual trade, sold visually

The firm's own job photographs were harvested, categorised and given descriptive alt text, then built into a filterable gallery and threaded through the service and town pages. A quote form sits at the foot of every page, pre-filled with whatever service you were reading about, and the phone is tap-to-call in the header, in every inverted panel and in a sticky bar on mobile. A call is never more than one tap away.

04

Its own brand, not ours

The palette and type come from the client's own logo: forest green with an olive leaf accent on a warm cream canvas, set in Newsreader and Work Sans. Deliberately none of the studio's own signatures. The house design system is a quality floor, not a template, and a client build should look like the client, not like us.

05

Handed over, not held hostage

Content and templates are separate: every word and photograph lives in its own file that both the build and the client's editor read, so a change made in the browser and a change made in code are the same kind of change. The client can edit any page, add a service or publish a guide without a developer, and they own the site, the code and the data.
